In Luke's gospel, the disciples return to Jesus after a long journey, sharing and retelling their ministries. Then, at nightfall, many people remain with Jesus and the disciples; the crowds are empty-handed and have nothing to consume. In the act of the miraculous, Christ feeds those who are hungry and thirsty and instructs his followers to serve the helpless. "Give them something to eat." It is the life of serving beyond the self that we find our purpose and ministry of loving people and being the host Jesus calls us to be for his glory.
